Our Mission

Barrett Ecological is a Portland, Oregon based Design/Build firm dedicated to providing ecological landscape solutions for residential and commercial properties using the principles of permaculture.

The landscapes we create include:

• Edible Plants: Forget food-miles, our clients measure in food-feet!
• Medicinal Plants: To heal our bodies as we heal the earth.
• Native Plants: Beautiful specimens indigenous to our bio-region that thrive with little maintainance or water.
• Rainwater Catchment: With cisterns and rain barrels, water caught from your rooftop can be used for exterior (irrigation) or interior (e.g. flushing toilets) uses, and even for drinking water!
• Community Places: Transforming outdoor spaces into places that build relationships.
• Small-Scale Livestock: As integrated elements in a landscape, animals such as chickens, goats, and rabbits not only provide a food yield, but also effectively recycle household ‘waste’ products, inhibit pest species, and much more.
• Edible Fungi:  We like to call in nature’s master recyclers to do our client’s bidding: recycling organic matter, enhancing soil moisture retention, and with species like oysters and king stropharia, providing a fine vehicle for butter and garlic.
